Important role of aerobic, anaerobic bacteria and probiotics in shrimp culture.
Hello everyone:
Today we will see the important role of bacteria to maintain ecological functions of pond and also important role of probiotics in Aquaculture especially in shrimp.
Nowadays probiotics is an important thing which is very useful for the growth of the organism and also plays important role in the immune system.
Shrimp is an crustacean which acquires Non specific immunity or innate immunity. It cannot produce antibodies against specific viral pathogens because of its nature of defence. Shrimp is also an ectothermic animal. So we must take care of our shrimp through entire days of culture.
Most of the probiotics are not directly applied into the pond(based on companies it may differ).
Before the application we have to activate the beneficial bacteria which is present as a probiotic.
We can activate by fermentation, it may be aerobic or anaerobic fermentation based on microorganism.
In this process we can proliferate the beneficial bacterial counts.
Fermentation:
It is a metabolic process of bacteria in which they produce various chemical changes in the organic substrates with the help of enzymes. Fermentation results in the production of organic substances.
Prebiotics:
Prebiotics is the undigested food material which is used to promote the growth of beneficial bacteria.
For example: In probiotics preparation we use ricebran , cornflour etc..this rice bran and cornflour is a prebiotic which promotes the growth of bacteria.
Probiotics:
Probiotics is a complete microbial substrate that helps for the and boost our immune system by doing various machanism. When we use probiotics , it will increase the appetite and regularize the digestion process of an organism.
Various types of probiotics available ( water probiotics, gut probiotics, soil probiotics)
Probiotics
Fermentation
( aerobic or anaerobic )
Aerobic bacteria
Anaerobic bacteria
Chemotrophic bacteria
Chemoautotrophic bacteria
Aerobic bacteria ( functions in the presence of oxygen):
Aerobic bacteria plays very important role in the pond ecosystem. In pond water there is aerobic zone, which is present in top layer of water. The aerobic bacteria present in this zone will completely decompose the organic matter and dead planktons present in this aerobic zone. In pond we apply aerobic fermented water probiotics means it will helpful for degrading this organic matter.
Anaerobic bacteria ( functions in the absence of oxygen):
In pond bottom there is deficiency of oxygen. When we apply anaerobic fermented probiotic in water it will degrade the organic matter present in the pond bottom.
But... In this process of degradation, bacteria produces metabolic wastes like carbon dioxide, nitrates, sulfates, ammonia, ferrous, iron in the pond water , it also affect the water quality. In this place chemotrophic bacteria plays important role to maintain the water quality.
Instead of oxygen, chemotrophic bacteria use nitrates, sulfates as a source of energy ( ex: sulfur reducing bacteria). So the bacteria reduces the sulfates into sulfides, nitrate into nitrogen.
Now the sulfides, nitrites , and other residues produced by the chemotrophic bacteria is removed with the influence of chemoautotrophic bacteria. This chemoautotrophic bacteria oxidise the substance which is produced by chemotrophic bacteria. This chemoautotrophic bacteria functions in non photosynthetic pathway.
We should apply,
Anaerobic fermented probiotic - Night time.
Aerobic fermented probiotic - Day time.
If we are not maintain the balance bacterial population in water means it will affect the pH of the water and collapse the entire water body.
NOTE: Proper maintenance of pH prevent the vibrio occurance in pond.
SAY NO TO ANTIBIOTICS - USE ONLY PROBIOTICS
