Reason for the necrosis in the appendages of Vannamei...

Necrosis in periopods and antennae cut due to necrosis..

Hlo everyone:
Today we will see about the reason for the necrosis in vannamei.

Everyone saw the presence of some dark spots on the shells of vannamei. If you observe deeply then,We can see the necrosis in the ends of uropod in improperly managed ponds.

What is the reason for this?
Vannamei is stocked in high stocking density. In natural way, sometimes the injury will happens due to crowding of shrimp.
If you not properly maintain your pond, then the bacterial load will increases and causes various damages to the system.
1, Necrosis in the antennae.
2, Necrosis in the periopods.
3, Necrosis in the shells, or ens of Uropod.
4, Necrosis in body.

What is happening on that place?
If your shrimp pond have some harmful pathogens like bacteria or fungi or protozoa... If it attacks the body of the shrimp, then the immune system in the shrimp acts and try to kills the foreign pathogen.
At the time of the reaction, various activities happens like phagocytosis, encapsulation of foreign pathogen... At that time happening reaction called melanization. It cause the body colour in black or brown. If the shrimp is accidentally got injured, then also this reaction will happens.

Is it cause any problem?
Initial stage it doesn't cause any problem. But there is chance for increasing it effects if we didn't maintain the pond properly. Don't allow for the growth of harmful pathogens. Try to maintain good bacterial population on pond at any time by the method of probiotics application.

Probiotics is the only solution and precaution in shrimp farming. Farmers should use the probiotics in many frequencies.

Sometimes, you can observe in the antennae of the shrimp got melanized with small black dot on the middle portion. It will leads to the break of the antannae. It is mainly due to presence of harmful pathogens in the pond.

Deeply observe in the periopods and uropods of the shrimp. Sometimes presence of vibrio causes necrosis in uropods and cause some reddish melanized spots in the side of the body.

If your giving proper bioremediation, them the dots presents on the surface of the shell will removed by the moulting process.

If you are not treating properly, then the pathogens causes disease and stress to the animal. The maintanence of every parameter is very important.

The speed of proliferation of harmful pathogen depends on the pond water quality like pH, ammonia, dissolved oxygen.... Try to maintain the dissolved oxygen levels more than 4ppm in ponds..
