Importance of biosecurity in shrimp farming.

Hello everyone:
   In this blog we will see the importance of biosecurity in shrimp farming. Nowadays shrimp farming have enormous growth in aquaculture. After introduction of SPF seeds.
But some of the farmers does not follow proper biosecurity measures in their farm. This leads to easy transmission of various diseases.
White spot is major threatening to the shrimps but now additionally white faecal disease. If we maintain good biosecurity measures,we can achieve good culture.
Possibilities of transmission of disease. There are some ways the disease can spread.

  *Horizontal transmission.
  *Vertical transmission.

In horizontal transmission the disease spread from one pond to another. There are many vectors carrying disease by this transmission.
Precautions:
 The pond must be fenced to prevent the entry of birds and crabs.
 Snakes, Turtles, dogs and crabs are very dangerous because they can move from one pond to another easily, there is lot of possibilities for the transmission of disease.
          * Before entering into the pond, the person must disinfect his hands and legs. We must use one feed boy for one pond, don't allow him to go to another ponds. 
         *We must disinfect the dikes of the pond atleast two days once. If the birds sits on the dike it also cause possibilities of the disease.

In another way, the disease can get spread from hatchery, if the farmer doesn't properly check the quality of seeds , there is some possibilities of disease occurance. This will completely collapse our culture and investment. So before seed purchasing farmers should check the quality of the seed by PCR for disease detection.
   The farm equipments must be disinfected after evry single use. It is also major threat of disease spreading..
   If any vehicle moves by the pond side means, we have to bleach the place. We have to maintain separate storage room for feeds and medicines.
  We must prevent the entry of run-off water into the pond. So we have to increase the height of the dike. These are the some of biosecurity measures in shrimp farm.

Shrimp eats more copepods which is present in the pond.       In last blog, I told about the reactions and preparation of fermented juice using organic substrates.
