Better clarification about pH and Alkalinity in shrimp pond. Water quality series -3

Hello everyone: Most of us confused between pH and alkalinity in the pond ecosystem. If there is low concentration of pH and alkalinity means we can increase but if there is high pH and alkalinity means it is some difficult to reduce . pH and Alkalinity are related but different. pH and Alkalinity: If you have shrimp pond then you definitely know the variance of pH in the water. You want to know means , you can check 4 to 5 times in a day. you must saw the pH fluctuations. Yes, pH is very important factor determines the shrimp culture. based on the level of pH you can tell , what happening in your shrimp pond. Fluctuations of pH is mainly determined by amount of carbon dioxide in your pond water. Other factors like soil pH, soil deposits like calcium carbonate, planktons density also determines the changes of pH in your water. pH : I am also tell the same me...

How copepods develops in shrimp pond after applying fermented juice?

Hello everyone: Are you know which is shrimp favourite food in zooplanktons? Yes, it is copepods. Shrimp eats more copepods which is present in the pond. In last blog, I told about the reactions and preparation of fermented juice using organic substrates. It is the continuation of that blog. In this I will tell about how zooplanktons(especially copepods) developed after fermented juice application. Main purpose of fermented juice in shrimp pond: Increase the beneficial microbial colonies by fermentation and produce various substances which is beneficial for beneficial organism growth. After application, it will forms the microbial proteins in the water column. It serve as a natural food for shrimp at stocking time. Initially, we have to give some natural live feeds because it increases the strength and natural immune system of the Shrimp. So only we prepared for development of zooplanktons in the pon...

How temperature plays major role in shrimp farming.(Water quality series - 1)

Hello everyone: Today we will see the importance of temperature in shrimp culture. What are the problems will come due to the temperature variance in shrimp pond. Most of the persons who doing shrimp farm must know about the things what happened during temperature Change. Shrimp grows very fastly, but we can't culture throughout the year. Why? If you are doing intensive or super intensive system means no problem. But you are doing the culture of shrimp on outside means you have to fix the culture days based on climate change(keep in mind). Ok let's jump into topic. Temperature : Most of the farmers doing in outer earthern pond. So in these situations, temperature plays important role in growth of our shrimp. We all focus only on ammonia, nitrite, H2S, but indirectly temperature plays very crucial role. Heat is produced in water due to sunlight. Because ...

Different roles of microorganisms in shrimp pond ecosystem - part 2

Hello everyone: Last blog, we saw about the importance of photoautotrophs in shrimp pond. In this blog, we will see about chemoautotrophic bacteria. For publication requests, Kindly fill the form in link: Publication request form Chemosynthesis is a process in which microorganisms actively utilize inorganic chemicals such as H2s, Hydrogen, carbon monoxide, ammonia, methane, iron, Nitrite, nitrate to produce their food. These type of bacteria didn't utilize carbon as a major energy source. Important : Farmers pls be aware of using carbon source for every probiotics application. They actively works in both aerobic and anaerobic conditions. Sulfur bacteria which oxidize H2S to sulphur and sulphates. Most commonly involved species are Thiobacillus. Nitrogenous bacteria which are mainly involved in nitrification process. We all are knew about that. Ammonia - nitrite - nitrate Species involved in this pro...

Determines the water quality by it's colour.(water quality series - 2).

Hello everyone: Today we will see about the different water colours behind the pond production. We already see in detail about temperature in shrimp pond. Now various techniques developed for doing shrimp farming. Intensive and super intensive farming system does not depends on primary production. But.. in earthern pond, we partly depends on the primary productivity . In final production, we calculated FCR in the pond. At this calculation we can't note or mention, how much feed contributed by planktons. If you are preparing the pond, then do one thing( after water filling). * Take white bucket. * Fill the bucket with water. * Note the colour of your pond water, not during heavy sunlight. * Daily do this and see the difference in your pond productivity. The colour of your water is mainly due to the present of amount of total dissolved and total suspended solids present in your ...

How zeolite works on ammonia absorption in shrimp pond?

Hello everyone: Everyone knows, In shrimp ponds, if ammonia increases then add zeolite to reduce ammonia. Everyone tells zeolite removes ammonia. But we must know the reaction for better clarification. Zeolite : We can tell it is the type of mineral which contains sodium, aluminium, silicate. It has special function called adsorption (உறிஞ்சுதல்). Zeolite have tetrahedral shape, it has a entry channels for adsorption. Zeolite can adsorbs 30% from their body weight. Imagine it can adsorbs how much? It is in powdered form. Zeolite have pores for absorbing gases. It is mainly works on cationic exchange . How it works? We don't directly apply zeolites granules to the water because if we applied directly means, there is chance for absorbing water and atmospheric air or other things through the pore size in zeolite in shrimp pond. So it make competition for absorbing ammonia. Our aim is for removing Ammonia. If we make some small balls or mixed the with sand and make balls i...

Importance of potassium in low saline shrimp farming.

Hello everyone: Most of us doing shrimp farming in low saline water only... Right? P.vannamei has tolerance capacity for wide range of salinities. So it is easy for doing in low saline water. In my blog, I posted about advantages and disadvantages of culture in low saline water.. in this major disadvantage is deficient of mineral. . If one region have salinity of 5 ppt then other region also have the same salinity means , we can't able to tell, both of water have same ionic composition... It changes based on places, region..... Minerals : Some of major minerals are very important for the shrimp growth and survival. Ca, Mg, Na, k, Cl. On these important minerals, Most of us faces the potassium deficiency in water. Next Magnesium is deficient in most of the region... Based on ionic analysis of water, you have to add minerals to your water....

Important of azolla in aquaculture

Hlo everyone; I am P.Dhivagar completed Bachelor of fisheries science. Now I working as a Technical executive. Today I am going to share about important of azolla in aquaculture. For publication requests, Kindly fill the form in link: Publication request form Importance of azolla in aquaculture Biosecurity in shrimp farm Azolla : It is a floating aquatic weed having high amount of crude protein upto 25% in dry weight based on environment it may changes. It has special capacity of fixing atmospheric nitrogen with the help of blue green algae Anabena azollae. Due it's nutrient availability it is used as feed for fish, poultry, pigs and cattles. We can reduce the feed cost by using azolla as a supplement feed. 6 different species available around the world. In India Azolla pinnata is widely spreaded. Experiments : Different researches conducted on developing azolla meal as a substi...

Why vitamin C is mainly used during the culture of shrimp?

Hello everyone: Today we will see the important antioxidant which is included with diets during the culture days.... Essential : Always keep this in mind... We are not culturing the shrimp in their natural environment. We are culturing in high stocking densities compares to its natural environment.... So the needs for essential nutrients also high... If your culture depends on the natural production means then no problem for high use of additive compounds to the culture.. most of us only depends on the artificial feeds. Make sure the feed we using must be in high quality. Many basic rules are their to check feed quality. I will post about how to check this quality by physically.. poor feed quality leads to lost of culture. Improper storage leads to rancidity, if you use that racid feed to your shrimp then it will damage the shrimp tissues... Be aware and careful of using and choosing feed.. Vitamin...

How fermentation helps on proliferation of beneficial bacteria in shrimp farming?

Hello everyone: Today we will see about the use of fermented probiotics application in shrimp farming. I already posted in my blog about aerobic, anaerobic bacteria uses in shrimp pond and definition about probiotics and it uses. Fermented probiotics application before stocking: If you are doing shrimp culture, then you definitely know about this fermented probiotics application in your pond. Different farmers uses different ingredients in the fermentation medium. Before that I tell about benefits of yeasts. Note: Prebiotics+ Probiotics = Synbiotics. If your applied the fermented probiotics with the help of prebiotics like ricebran then the final product called Synbiotics. We can't separately use prebiotic sources because some of them needs breakdown process through fermentation. We can't directly add probiotics because before adding we have to activate and proliferate the amount of beneficial b...
